Soundproofing is not a new concept as many believe it has been used in the entertainment industry for many years especial in the music industry in recording studios. The first discovery of soundproofing was believed to be in the UK where a thermal product what we call "Mineral Glass Fibre" had been used often as a heat retention material had produced some interesting findings.

The home owner has been complaining that he had high heating cost to heat his home and once he turned off the heaters his home would get cold in the winter very fast. So the contractor proposed a 3 layer of the "mineral Glass Fibre" to be used to keep the heat in. After the work had been completed indeed the "mineral Glass Fibre" Had worked and the property was much warmer and needed less power from the heaters to do this. However the home owner also commented that he could no longer hear the noise from the traffic outside. It was this breakthrough that lead to the idea of "Mineral Glass Fiber" to be used as a Soundproofing Material. How ever there has been much confusion as to what products to use and how.

The proven theory behind the Mineral Glass Fiber is that the lower the density the better the heat retention and the higher the density the better the soundproofing. Many contractors confuse this when either buying the products or using them. A recent site visit to a house being built in singapore discovered that the contractor was using 40 kg per Meter Cubed Mineral Glass Fiber in the firm belief that this would soundproof the owners property when constructed. This was completely not the case. The result in using such a low density can only result in heat retention and in the climate of Singapore this will add to the cost of your air con.

We strongly suggest if you are unable to know the difference between a high density and low to not use a contractor that is not familiar with soundproofing.
